Background & Personality: Jasper was born on March 8th, 1988 in Cincinnati, Ohio to a loving family. His parents took great care of him. Sheila, Jasper’s mom, is a housewife while Paul is a professor of Fine Arts at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Being born into the home of an artist offered Jasper a couple benefits that he greatly appreciated. For starters, his father tended to be pretty lenient and let Jasper thoroughly explore his own creative side. It seemed that as soon as Jasper was old enough to hold a crayon he was scribbling on any available surface he could find. By the time Jasper was six his dad started introducing him to more and more mediums for him to express himself. Drawing, painting, sculpting, singing, music, acting and cooking were just a few things that Jasper grew up doing. Jasper’s mom started to get a little worried when she noticed his grades were slipping, in everything except Art and Music anyway. To attempt to fix what would most likely become a problem later on Sheila restricted Jasper’s art privileges until he was done with his homework.

Jasper never really knew just how misunderstood and unappreciated art and music were in the world until he started middle school. Throughout sixth and seventh grade Jasper suffered through many wedgies and swirlies. As annoying as it was he was always able to escape back into his art and ignore the taunts and jeers from his fellow students.

At the end of Jasper’s first quarter of eighth grade his art caught the wrong person’s attention. He entered a city wide art contest. His entry was a life-sized mural of the high school football team flipping burgers for a living wearing their football uniforms. The project only came in third but the damage had been done. He had meant it to be a satire of the public school system’s emphasis on sports rather than learning or the arts but Mark, the star high school quarterback, took it as a personal attack. After school the next week Mark showed up at the middle school and attacked Jasper just off school grounds. It seemed like the whole school showed up to watch the fight and they quickly surrounded the two combatants. When Jasper tried to run away the mob just kept pushing him back into the fight. With nowhere to run to Jasper turned to face his attacker and tried his best to defend himself. Sadly it was a futile effort, Mark ended up giving him a black eye and a fat lip. After Mark had finished with him Jasper ran off and hid in his room for the rest of the night. Once the crowd had cleared out there was a single girl standing there with big crocodile tears in her eyes.

After being beaten up by Mark, Jasper tried to act like nothing had happened. He tried really hard to pretend everything was just fine and that he didn’t have a care in the world. During lunch he was trying to ignore the taunts from the students around him by reading a book while eating when he sensed someone sitting down on the other side of the table from him. Hesitantly he peeked over the top of the book and saw a beautiful young lady. She had long flowing golden blonde hair with baby blue eyes and a smile that could melt the sternest scowl. Jasper couldn’t help but give her a sheepish grin. After some awkward introductions Robin and Jasper hit it off. Over the next couple months the young couple did everything together and Jasper really opened up to her.

In January of 2003 Robin’s father retired from duty. He was an Air Force Captain at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and had accepted a position at a business firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As soon as she heard the news she ran crying to tell Jasper, they both swore to write each other as often as possible and like all first loves they promised to find each other. Jasper gave Robin his most prized possession, a bronze carving of a fox that is Father made him when he was a baby, to remember him by. Robin was shocked that Jasper would part with something so important to him and having nothing to give him herself she put her hair up in a ponytail and took out a pair of scissors to cut her hair off at the shoulder. She gave him her hair bound up in the ponytail holder. Just as quickly as she had come into his life, Robin was gone. After Robin had left, Jasper used his art as an outlet for his true feelings and went into a depressed slump. Jasper took the hair that Robin gave him and wove it into a rope so he wouldn’t loose a single strand and kept it in his pocket at all times.

Staying in the same school and seeing all the places that he and Robin used to go and all the things they used to enjoy together was just too much for Jasper. Using the excuse that the other students were picking on him and beating him up Jasper talked his parents into sending him to a Private Arts High School in Philadelphia. Jasper started his freshman year at the end of August of 2003 in Philadelphia. Jasper’s parents sent him a card every week, helped him buy any supplies he needed and sent him an allowance every month so he could get out and have some fun. Jasper was truly lucky to have such loving parents. Jasper knew that this would be the best time to fulfill his promise to Robin that they would find each other again. Everyday after school Jasper searched for Robin. He searched everywhere he could think of and looked up everyone with the same last name in the whole city, Robin simply just wasn’t there. On September 17th, 2003 Jasper was about to give up and had no idea where to look, Jasper went to the nearest park to cry and try to figure out what to do next.

After walking for an hour Jasper ended up in Fairmount Park. Taking up a seat on a secluded park bench Jasper just watched the ducks swimming on the river and got lost in his thoughts. Jasper was snapped back to reality when a sudden intense feeling crept over him, he was being watched! Jasper looked around quickly to find who was watching him. He didn’t see anyone nearby though. On closer inspection the only thing nearby was a single chipmunk. Once the chipmunk noticed Jasper saw him it scurried over in front of the bench and stood on its hind legs looking at Jasper. Well that’s strange, Jasper thought. Just then it scurried off towards a small patch of trees and stopped to look back at Jasper. Jasper got the feeling that it wanted him to follow it, so he did. He followed the chipmunk into the trees and the chipmunk quickly ducked behind a tree. Walking over to the tree to see where it went, Jasper was shocked to see an older boy sitting at the base of the tree and even more shocked to see that he had a chipmunk-like nose! “Hello there, I’m glad you made it to my home and I wish you could stay forever,” said the young boy. “It is absolutely horrible to meet you,” said Jasper. Why did I just say that, I’m glad to meet him Jasper thought. Chuckling, the chipmunk boy said “My name is Greg, and I think I have someone you need to meet. You should sit and take a load off. ” Once Greg finished speaking he stood up and started walking back out of the trees. What on earth is going on here, he just asked me to take a seat then walked off. This is so strange.

In a sort of daze Jasper followed the older boy down the block to an old abandoned building. As he approached the building it exploded into an array of colors and life that took his breath away. “How expected!” Jasper yelled in shock. Chuckling softly Greg led him inside quickly before the passers-by took too much notice of his outburst. Once inside the smells of fresh baked bread and hot soups filled his nose, reminding him that it was long past dinner time and he hadn’t had anything to eat since lunch. Looking around the room he saw a couple people sitting at booths and tables eating dinner. All of them looked odd to Jasper. One older boy in the corner was at least 7 foot tall if he stood up and was blue! A lady at a table was the most beautiful person he had ever seen; with slender features, pointed ears and a pair of small butterfly wings on her back. There was a shorter plump fellow standing behind a half wall who was apparently cooking. A young girl sat alone at a table happily eating her plastic flatware and plate. Taken aback Jasper started to hyperventilate. Greg, noticing that Jasper was about to pass out quickly sat him in a chair and fanned his face. “This boy is new here and needs some help! He is in no way undergoing his Chrysalis right now!” Greg shouted to the people in the room. “Why … why do you all look perfectly normal,” Jasper managed to stutter out between big gasps of air. The occupants of the freehold quickly explained to Jasper what was going on and took care of him for the next couple months. They taught him about the dreaming and some of the history of the Kithain after he got out of classes each day.

At the beginning of February of 2004 Jasper’s new friends felt they had taught him everything they could about what and who he truly was. Knowing that he still needed guidance and knowledge they helped him talk his parents into letting him apply to join an exclusive school in Brownell, Pennsylvania. His parents were very excited that not only was Jasper doing just as well as always in art, he also seemed very interested in advancing his other learning! They gladly gave their blessing and Jasper quickly sent in his application to Rowan Academy.
